Corten steel
What is Corten steel?
Corten steel is a metal alloy. Its strength is comparable to that of other alloyed steels such as stainless steel.
Corten steel is a special type of steel known for its durability and characteristic rust patina. Instead of weakening due to corrosion, the rust layer forms a protective layer that protects the underlying steel. This gives it a warm, rust-colored appearance over time, perfect for garden decorations.
All corten steel products we sell still have the appearance of "clean" metal. The warm natural color is formed by a natural rusting process.
Prefer no rust layer? Or do you want to speed up the rust process? No problem - we are happy to give you tips on how to do this.
You can accelerate this rusting process. This can be done as follows:
- First degrease the steel with a cleaning agent
- Dissolve 3 large tablespoons of salt in 10 liters of water
- Apply the salt solution generously with a plant sprayer or watering can.
The rusting process can also be stopped. When the corten steel has the desired rust color, you can treat the metal with corten steel varnish.
